Laura, what is it that you love so much about surfing?
Being In the ocean everyday. To feel so free in mother nature and ride waves for the love of it brings me so much happiness. I also love that every wave is different – you can’t predict anything, you just have to go with the flow of the ocean 🙂
What is it like being on the pro tour?
Surfing is what I love to do and being on the tour is my job. When I put on the jersey that’s work. It’s taken me a long time to find a balance of surfing for fun and surfing to win. But now that I have found that balance I’m happier than ever and loving the tour so much more! I love travelling and competing is exciting. I make mistakes but I learn from them, and that’s what I take from competing the most. There are so many amazing girls on tour so I’m constantly trying to push my surfing to the next level.

How stoked are you to surf for a living?
It is a dream come true – it honestly is! I am so grateful to be able to have the opportunity to travel, see the world and ride waves.
Which is your favourite destination to surf and compete at?
I love going to Brazil and Europe. I love seeing different cultures and meeting new people, eating new food, riding new waves.

Do you get to hang out with the other girls on the circuit much?
Yes, a lot of the girls on tour are now my best friends! We stay together, we surf together, we compete against each other but at the end of the day what happens in the water stays in the water and we are great friends.
What do you do to get ‘in the zone’ before your heats?
I actually meditate! It sounds crazy but I have so much energy that I actually have to calm myself down and relax. I listen to music, and just concentrate on the ocean and the conditions.
How much of your time do you have to dedicate to keeping fit and what kind of exercises work best for you?
I try to surf as much as possible, stretch, do yoga and just keep as active as possible on the road.

Which song sums up your life?
Probably the Endless Summer theme song – I love it and I pretty much live an endless summer!
What makes you happy?
Waking up every morning! We actually don’t need much in life to make us happy. Knowing that I have amazing friends and family keeps me happy. And of course the ocean and coffee 🙂
What’s the one thing you’d like to say to someone who’s just starting to surf?
Surf for the love of it. You are already winning by being able to surf! Anything else that comes from surfing is a bonus.
