Virginia, where do you live and what’s it like there?
I grew up in the Canaries where it’s warm and sunny, people work to live and it’s a laidback lifestyle. Recently I moved to Frankfurt, where it’s just complete the opposite. Cold and cloudy, people live for work but I have still managed to meet and spent time with great people from around the world.
What’s the vibe in the water like?
Haven’t been in Frankfurt in the water yet ha,ha! But I look forward to try supping on summer in the Main River. In the Canaries, great vibe as long as you know the people and respect them.
How long have you been surfing and what tip would you give to learner surfers?
Since I was 13 years old. My tip, on the one hand, don’t forget it is an extreme sport and that you should never lose respect to the ocean and other surfers in the water. On the other hand, being patient is key and even if you fall loads enjoy it and have fun!
Where’s your favourite place to travel to and why?
Every place that I have been were magic and special, each of them different. I would say Indonesia was one of the outstanding with its people, culture, nature and food.
Which is your favourite wave to surf?
There is nothing better than surfing at home, Faro de Maspalomas.
What’s the best and worst thing about living in Gran Canaria?
On the one hand, warm sunny weather, good waves, laidback lifestyle and the place I grew up. On the other hand, feels sometimes small, the same routine and people are sometimes not that open minded.
What do you love about surfing?
Just the fact of being in the water, glide the waves and being surrounded by Mother Nature.
How do you do to stay in good shape?
Now that I’m living in a city, I either jog around home in parks and forests or I go to the gym and do some exercise but I need good music!
What’s your fitness regime?
45min whole body exercises with own weight and non own weight and 30 to 45min of cardio. I sometimes take group lessons, specially yoga.
Describe your typical diet?
For breakfast I like to eat freshly made orange juice, some cereals or bread with yoghurt and jam, a piece of fruit and tea. For lunch and dinner I always some vegetables and meat or fish and some carbs – more during lunch than dinner.
The timing of the meals is very important. I eat every 3 hours if possible and in between big meals a piece of fruit, yogurt or sandwich and don’t eat after 19:00h.
What motto do you try to live by?
Enjoy each moment.
