The Conversation

Three surfers, one host, audience questions and plenty of honest, heartwarming stories.

Hosted by Demi Taylor from the London Surf Film Festival, we’ll be joined by three inspiring surfers, Allannah Brownchard, Sally McGee and Tegan Blackford, sharing their stories of adventure, activism, overcoming challenges, finding community and following their own paths.

Demi talks to Allannah Brownchard. As a progressive surf coach and co-founder of Gather and Glide, Allannah has a deep love of the ocean, extensive knowledge of surfing and a commitment to creating a supportive, connected community. With over 18 years of coaching experience under her belt, Allannah continues to grow Gather and Glide as a place where people feel at home in the surf community.

Sally McGee

Sally McGee is a surfer, surf coach, Surfers Against Sewage Ambassador, Finisterre Ambassador, long-time activist and community campaigner. Sally has recently moved from the North East of England after twenty-plus years surfing the North Sea and now lives in North Cornwall with her son Billy and husband, filmmaker and photographer Tom Bing. As a family they are discovering the hidden gems of the Atlantic coast, living simply, running a family allotment and slowing things down.

Tegan Blackford

Tegan Blackford has lived and breathed surfing from an early age. After leaving school at 18 she took a year out to travel, spending the first month in a van in Europe doing a few JQS events, then went to Hawaii, Sri Lanka, Australia and Indonesia, where she fell in love with free surfing and not having the pressure to compete. Tegan is currently studying renewable energy engineering at Falmouth University, is president of the surf society and recently won the BUCS surf comp in Newquay.

Surfing Question Time

This is your chance to discuss your own surfing experience, the fears you face in the surf and how being in and by the ocean has been a transformative experience for you. You will be given a card on entry to write your questions down, and Demi will choose the questions during the evening.

Clean Seas Newquay will introduce this event’s raffle and explain the cause behind the organisation.

15-minute interval.

Part 2

In the second half of the evening, we’ll be screening two inspiring women’s surf films, celebrating the strength, spirit and stories of women in the waves.

Film 1: Demi from LSFF introduces her favourite film from the London Surf Film Festival and discusses how important women’s storytelling is.

Film 2: Cover star Laura Coviella is a formidable surfer, one of Europe’s best at tackling heavy waves. We’re stoked to show her new film, Untamed, this evening.
