It’s nearly that time of year again, Boardmasters is just around the corner 10-14th August and we can’t wait. So to get you all in the festival spirit we thought we would share what we are really excited about!
The SurfGirl team – Louise Searle, Corinne Evans, Stephenie Pollard and Chelsea Holter choose their top picks of all the things they’re looking forward to seeing at Boardmasters this year.
Boardmasters Music Festival
I love Wolf Alice and James Bay so it’s looking like I’ll have to go up to the festival site every night! I love the atmosphere up at there; it’s always such a fun place to spend the evening. Chilling on the grass listening to music over looking the stunning Watergate Bay. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Surf Comp
I am so stoked that the surf comp is now a QS. It will hopefully attract some high-class surfers from around the globe but I’ll be cheering on our local girls and hoping one of them takes the win!
Food!
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love food and there is always such a great choice of culinary treats at the festival and on the beach. I am well and truly in my element. Surf, food, good music and some sunshine will keep me smiling over the 5 days.
WSL Surf Contest
Excited that Newquay is once again a World Surf League destination, it’s going to be great watching the top international surfers ripping it up at Fistral in the Men’s and Women’s QS1000 and LQS1000 events. Especially looking forward to seeing our girls take on the best..…Emily, Keshia, Ellie, Peony, Lucy – good luck girls!
Music Festival
I’m looking forward to watching James Bay on Sunday night and on Friday night, Chase and Status – they’re a great festival band. Apart from that I’ll be loving all the random stuff at Boardmasters.
Beach Sessions
The Beach Bar is the perfect place to chill out after the day’s activities and catch up with your mates over a cold pint while you’re waiting for the Beach Sessions to begin and I’m loving the line up this year. Intrigued to watch surfing legend Tom Curren on Wednesday night and then on Thursday a double whammy of Lee Ann Curren playing with her band Betty the Shark and the awesome Boardmasters regulars, Sunset Sons. Such a cool gig on the beach!
Shopping
This year I will be enjoying a good half day at the retail village down at Fistral Beach, where I will stock up on a good amount of individual clothing brands and seeing what bargains can also be found! Don’t forget that the SurfGirl stand will also be there so come find us and say hello 🙂 So far marshmellow sticks lathered in chocolate and decorated with strawberries has become quite the tradition for me – just making sure a good long surf session runs alongside to burn off the calories!
Music
What can I say about the music event?…Well simply…don’t miss out!! A fantastic array of bands all in one convenient space. A big enough festival to enjoy something all the time but small enough to not just wander around and get lost and miss whats going on. Chase and Status kick off on the main stage on the Friday night and if it’s anything like their last visit then we are in for a real treat 🙂 Whoop, whoop!
Retail Village
I’m looking forward to being in the retail village. There’s always amazing stuff to look at and so many different people from all around the world who come together because of surfing. I’ll be down at the SurfGirl and Carve retail stand, so don’t forget to come and check it out!
The Beach Bar
The Beach Bar is one of my favourite places to hang out, it has such an amazing view. The Day Sessions are always great and it will be good to see some local young musicians getting a chance to play, like John Buckley. It’s also a great place to go in the evening as it always has such a nice chilled vibe, also the perfect place to wait for Sunset Sons to play Beach Sessions this year!
Music
I’m really looking forward to Catfish and the Bottlemen on Friday. Really excited to see them perform on the Main Stage. I also can’t wait to see Sigma play at the Unleashed stage on Sunday Night as they are one of my favourite artists.
