One week. All women. One of the world’s most perfect waves. Progressive coaching, real connection, and a crew who get it.

As Iara and Cris of Halia Surf Academy know, the best sessions aren’t just about catching the waves of your life, it’s who you surf them with that makes all the difference.

Ahead of their all-women surf coaching clinic at Macaroni’s Resort this October, we caught up with the girls to see why the Halia approach and this world-class Mentawai resort will change your surfing in a week.

“We want women to surf waves like this and feel like they belong there. Because they do.”

What is Halia and what’s the mission behind it?
We’re here for the women seeking the same real progression we still chase ourselves. We created it because the first time we surfed together, two women pushing each other, something shifted. We thought: why don’t more women get to feel this?

Halia is a women’s surf academy built on years of experience. Not a retreat, not a camp – a structured coaching base built from everything we’ve learned. We focus on bringing more joy to the water by improving the technical skills that surfing requires. More waves and more confidence lead to more fun.

Why Macaronis specifically?
It felt right from the first conversation. Same values, same commitment to the
experience. It wasn’t a business deal – it was a natural alignment.

And the break at Macaronis rewards technique. Long, consistent waves give you time to apply what you’re working on. We want women to surf waves like this and feel like they belong there. Because they do.

What do you bring to the coaching experience?
Iara makes you feel seen in the water. Technical and honest, but always warm. Expect
real feedback, daily video analysis, and someone who celebrates your progress like it’s
her own.

How does the coaching adapt for different levels?
Groups are small and progression plans are individual. The coaching adapts daily based on what we see in the water and in the video analysis. No one gets a generic experience.

What would you say to someone on the fence?
That feeling is exactly why Halia exists. Almost everyone travels solo, within the first
day, that stops mattering. And “good enough”? There’s no threshold. The only
requirement is that you want to improve. We’ll take it from there.

What does this give women that a regular surf trip doesn’t?
The women who hesitate the most are often the ones who get the most out of it. The nerves before a trip like this are normal, but no one has ever come back wishing they hadn’t gone.

What the week looks like:

IN-WATER COACHING
Daily coached surf sessions in the line-up, with Iara reading waves alongside you and giving real-time feedback.
VIDEO ANALYSIS
Your surfing filmed every session and broken down daily. See exactly what’s working and what to change — not just hear about it.
INDIVIDUAL PROGRESSION
No generic plans. A beginner works on reading waves and first turns. An intermediate refines technique and flow. The coaching adapts daily.

RESORT ACCOMMODATION
Seven nights at Macaronis Resort — bar, restaurant, yoga, spa, and the wave right at your door.
ALL-WOMEN ENVIRONMENT
A supportive group who are all there to improve. The connections that form off the water are just as much a part of it as the surfing.
PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGE
In-water photography included — so you actually come home with shots of yourself surfing Macaronis.
