The UK Surf & Skate Expo is fast approaching and brands are ready to show up in a big way across the weekend.
Running across Saturday July 25th and Sunday July 26th, the second-ever UK Surf & Skate Expo is back and much bigger than the inaugural event.
It’s anticipated that 20,000 people will pass through the Expo Village, over the weekend, which marks the start of the school’s summer holidays.
This year, Patagonia is bringing their Worn Wear Surf Team, rolling up across the whole weekend. The team will be offering free repairs on any of your busted gear – just bring your clean, dry wetsuit or any clothes from any brand for a free repair, then take on of the brand’s 100% neoprene-free Yulex wetsuits for a test spin. Patagonia has been at the forefront of sustainable wetsuits for the better part of a decade now.
Meanwhile, epic lifestyle brand Passenger will be bringing their converted American school bus, Little Firs to the Expo for the whole weekend. Founder Rich Sutcliffe is set to launch an intimate fireside chat by the bus, interviewed by Passenger’s Joe Taylor. The team will also be throwing a Happy Hour each day with a DJ out of the window hatch on the bus – serving Passenger’s own Off-Line West Coast IPA, brewed in collaboration with Brewgooder. Available while stocks last. Passenger will also work with Newquay-based Surf Sistas to offer surf lessons and morning escapism retreats, more on this soon. Inside the bus, Wavelength Surf Magazine will be offering a 45th anniversary drop-in analogue collaging. More details yet about this soon.
Alongside this, children’s clothing brand Roarsome will be bringing their racing paddock and merch store along to the Expo, selling a range of items including swim and surf gear, plus their new Roarsome Riders collection. The event is part of the brand’s Roar de France Tour, a series of community ride events from the UK to France to launch their Roarsome Riders collection. The aim is to host a community ride for children and parents on the morning of July 25th. Keep an eye on the UK Surf & Skate Expo for timings and the planned route.
Speaking about this year’s Expo, organiser Chris Thomson said: “We’re really excited about everything we’ve got going on this year. The brands are showing up in a big way, the talks and schedules are shaping up and we’ve expanded from one main stage to three stages across our Expo site. All exhibitors will be under marquees this year with events at Great Western Beach and Newquay’s skate park Concrete Waves, too.”
As well as the main YETI stage in the Expo Hall, where a series of talks and keynotes are taking place from the likes of Dylan Graves and Laura Crane, this year will also see the XTRATUF Tales From the Frontier Stage launch in the Expo Village, and Rising Tide Festival kick-off at Newquay Orchard.
The XTRATUF stage will feature talks from the likes of big wave surfers Andrew Cotton and Louis Thomas-Hudson and kite surfer and foiler Tom Court.
Rising Tide will play host to sustainable business and conversations with some of the biggest movers and shakers in the UK. Speakers include, Max Denning, from Man Surf Club. The UK Surf Show Podcast. Adam Williams from South Wales’ Williams Longboards, who creates sustainable longboards will give a talk about the trade. Sally McGee and Tom Bing are all set to deliver a talk on sustainability and those legends at Surfers Against Sewage will be on hand to give a keynote too.
And before the Expo on Friday July 24th, the Expo Hall will host the UK Wavelength Surfer Awards, an annual celebration of the surfers, culture and creatives who make up the industry.
There’s also the Wind & Foil Show, Out Of Office Conference, a vintage surf competition hosted by Saltrock and the European Surf Film Festival, all happening across the Expo weekend.
