As a champion of creative expression, Vans is excited for their latest collaboration with Canadian surfer and Vans family member Hanna Scott. Hanna’s ability to navigate the ever-changing cold-water weather conditions at her native Tofino, British Columbia home breaks is second only to her covetable, progressive surf style and creative pursuits that transcend beyond surfing, ranging from art, design, and music. For her latest collection with Vans, Hanna drew inspiration from cold-weather destinations and her own original watercolor paintings to create a head-to-toe look that’s functional and provides style and comfort in sub-degree temps.

Hanna’s passion for exploring outside the lines comes to life in the Vans x Hanna Scott collection, which leads with the UltraRange EXO Hi MTE-1 in a black and gray colorway. Vans MTE-1 technology provides protection from the elements, rain or shine, with a water-resistant package featuring zonal layering of watertight membranes that prevent leaking in high-soak areas. Thermoregulation is delivered through Primaloft® fabric, which has millions of air pockets to trap and preserve body heat. Finally, an aggressive reverse waffle lug pattern outsole features a siped tire-like design for increased traction and grip on wet city streets and beyond.
The Colfax boot in Hanna Scott black and medium gum is also meant for cold weather excursions, but with an elevated effortless aesthetic. A rubber-coated waterproof toe and utility lugged outsole meet a suede upper with subtle Checkerboard detailing. The Sk8-Low Reissue SF rounds out the footwear offering in a marshmallow colorway that features Hanna’s bright art across the Sidestripe.

An accompanying apparel kit includes the Hanna Scott MTE-1 bomber-style jacket with a DuPont™ Serona® 1K DWR fill, front-zip closure, colorblocked panels, and polar fleece lining at the hood and body to keep things toasty.

“I wanted to have a super warm jacket in the collection because where I live, even when it’s warm, it’s often quite cold,” Hanna explained. “One time in the middle of last winter I miscalculated the amount of daylight I had and ended up having to camp on a beach in just that jacket with zero other camping gear. I was blown away by how warm it was.”

In addition, the Hanna Scott Shorty beanie features Hanna’s signature colorblock detailing and Vans logo patch. A Split BF shortsleeve shirt in blue mirage with split seam detailing and contrast thread mirrors the beanie’s style, while a longsleeve BF tee in black with raised embroidery at the center chest features Hanna’s colorful art across the back. The Hanna Scott Crew in argan oil also features her custom art, and a tote bag in blue mirage rounds out the offering with side mesh pockets, drop-in zipper, cinch closure and a front slip pocket. The top handles feature a bright poppy orange that ties back to the footwear and apparel.
The ultimate staple for cold-water surfing, Vans’ Surf Boot 2 Hi V 5MM is offered in a signature Hanna Scott colorway. Providing crucial warmth, the Surf Boot 2 Hi V 5mm features a gusseted collar that seals on the calf to improve fit and employs rubber coatings that block water seepage. The Vans engineered rubber outsole with micro-waffle siping provides optimal grip on all waxes and water temperatures, with minimal thickness to protect connection with the board.

Growing up in Victoria, British Columbia, Hanna Scott is no stranger to cold weather and colder surf. Orcas in the lineup? Check. Sub-50-degree water temps? All day. While these things might make the average surfer think twice, Hanna draws inspiration from them and channels that energy into her surfing and other creative outlets. This ability to adapt and thrive in a variety of conditions has shaped her into a formidable competitor, snagging podium finishes from 2014 to 2017 at Queen of the Peak, a prestigious women-only event at her home break in Tofino. With her original style and graceful execution on a board, as well as an eye for eclectic art and design, Hanna is poised to continue pushing surfing further into the future. Her latest Vans collection is a direct reflection of that powerful creativity combined with everyday function.
