See You Soon is a community driven slow travel and adventure company founded by Aysia, Maddie and Cass who have created small, surf, wellness and movement escapes. They have created a signature girls trip for a week of surf, sunshine and adventure in one of Mexico’s most magnetic beach towns, Sayulita and we have one spot to giveaway to one lucky person.
SurfGirl had a chat with the team to get the lowdown.
For someone who’s never been on a women’s surf retreat before, what can they expect from a week with See You Soon in Sayulita?
Our weeks aren’t really your typical women’s retreat. They’re a mix of all the things we love most, including movement, nature, community, adventure, really good food and plenty of fun. It feels less like a structured retreat and more like a really great girls’ trip with a group of likeminded women.
There’s lots to do, but the pace is balanced and nothing is forced. You can challenge yourself, try something new, slow down when you need to and simply enjoy being somewhere beautiful with good people.
What makes Sayulita such a special place to surf and spend a week?
Sayulita is a designated Pueblo Mágico, and it really does have something special about it. There’s an energy here that makes it easy to drop the ego, leave some of your stress behind and settle into being yourself. The locals are incredibly warm and welcoming, and people from all over the world come for a short visit and end up calling it home for much longer.
It’s also a great place to learn to surf. The main beach has approachable waves for beginners, while there are other breaks nearby for women who are ready for something more challenging. Our coach, Fernando Stalla, and his team know the area inside and out. They make learning feel fun and supportive, while still teaching the skills women need to become more confident and independent in the water.
Who is the trip designed for? Do women need to be experienced surfers, or can beginners come along too?
Beginners are absolutely welcome. In fact, many of the women who join us have always wanted to surf, have only tried it once or twice, or want the chance to build their confidence in a supportive environment. Our coaching starts with the fundamentals and is designed to set women up for success in the water. There’s truly nothing better than learning in an all-girls lineup where everyone is cheering each other on.
Women with more experience are welcome too. The group can split based on ability, with stronger surfers heading farther into the lineup or exploring other nearby breaks. The trip is really for anyone who wants to surf, travel, move, connect and embrace the lifestyle for a week.
Tell us about the surf in Sayulita in February. What sort of waves and conditions can the winner look forward to?
February is a beautiful time to be in Sayulita, with warm water, sunny days and winter swells arriving from the North Pacific. The main beach is known for its long, mellow waves, which are ideal for learning and building confidence. More experienced surfers can head into the main lineup or try some of the nearby point and beach breaks.
We also plan a surf trip outside of town based on the conditions that week. Getting out of Sayulita with our local coaches and seeing another part of the coastline is always a highlight.
Beyond surfing, what are some of the experiences that really make the week memorable?
It’s honestly the combination of everything. There’s nothing like having a fresh coconut after an afternoon in the surf, then heading home to shower and get ready for salsa dancing or learning to cook an incredible local meal. The week also includes experiences like whale watching, snorkelling, yoga, Pilates, breathwork, a temazcal ceremony, an organic farm visit and a beach bonfire dinner. There are sunset swims, slow mornings, lots of laughs and plenty of really good food.
We try to bring together everything you want from a vacation at a pace that still gives you room to enjoy it. In the end, it’s often the smaller moments and the friendships that come from them that make the week so memorable.
Sounds idyllic, find out more here.
