We loved Camille’s stunning images in the last SurfGirl, here we find out what inspires her
CAMILLE WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in a small island in the Philippines, close to the famous surf spot Cloud 9.
DO YOU SURF?
I learnt to surf one year ago in the Philippines, and I use to surf there everyday when the conditions are good. I tried two spots in the country and only one in France.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING PHOTOS?
I’ve been taking pictures since i’m 16 years old. My favourite camera is the analog one, it gives you another dimension to your work.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I think my style evolve with the people and the place surrounding me, but my guidelines are feminity and nature.
I love to play with the colours and the compositions, I try to make people dream and to tell them stories. I wish when they look one of my picture, they feel the same as if they were reading a small poem.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE OCEAN?
I love to watch its complexity, the ocean is a metaphor of our lives and emotions.
“There are always waves on the ocean. Sometimes they are big, sometimes they are small, and, sometimes, they are almost imperceptible. The water’s waves are churned up by the winds, which come and go and vary in direction and intensity, just as do the winds of stress and change in our lives, which stir-up the waves in our minds” – Jon Kabat-Zinn
The ocean is a never-ending beauty, and my work is a testimony of it. I wish people protect and conserve better the world’s ocean.
YOUR PHOTOS ARE BEAUTIFUL WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I’m kind of obsessed with the light around me and how it can transform your life, if you choose to look at it in more sensible way.
In Asia my daily life is a non-stop inspiration: the people, the colours, the environment…every little thing can become a source of inspiration if you take the time to appreciate it. The most important with my work is to bring an other dimension in the daily life and to make it more unique.
