The 5th edition of the London Surf / Film Festival presented by Reef hits the UK 16th – 24th October 2015.
Hosted across the capital and across two weekends, the London Surf / Film Festival is one of Europe’s most creative and relevant surf happenings bringing to the UK a showcase of international surfing’s hottest releases and the very best in surf culture from waveriding’s most exciting creatives.
“Over the last 5 years, we’ve grown the event organically, working with some of the most exciting surf filmmakers from across the globe, hosting packed out premieres and audiences with some of the most inspiring names in surfing, ” says London Surf / Film Festival founder Chris Nelson. “The response to last year’s event was off the scale so this October we’re stoked to be bringing something pretty special to London. Over two weekends and hosted at two iconic picture houses, we’re presenting four unique nights of surf film premieres accompanied by talks and Q+A’s with heroes of the sea and screen, with a gallery show, live music and more. In between we’re curating a series of pop up events, happenings and workshops across the capital serving up hands on experiences and fresh perspectives.”
London Surf / Film Festival presented by Reef kicks off Friday 16th October and Saturday 17th October at The Genesis Cinema, E1 with a packed programme of premieres. Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October London Surf / Film Festival brings a fresh line up to the big screen in the heart of the West End at the landmark Regent Street Cinema.
As always the festival will showcase the very best independent films by both leading lights and emerging surf filmmakers, premiering award-winning features and underground hits that explore all aspects and angles of surfing and surf culture as well as the best short film productions from homegrown talents. For many of the films we showcase, it will be the only chance you’ll get to watch them as they were intended to be enjoyed – on the big screen, in surround sound, accompanied by a packed crowd of likeminded individuals. Surf movie releases have always been community happenings – the original “social media” experience and that is exactly what the London Surf / Film Festival is all about.
“The festival is a celebration of the cream of international surf culture, so we’re delighted to continue our partnership with iconic surf company REEF as headline sponsors for 2015,” says London Surf / Film Festival Creative Director Demi Taylor. “Reef embraces the full surfing lifestyle, supporting some of the most exciting filmmakers and waveriders in the world, from the likes of Korduroy founder Cyrus Sutton and adventurer Kepa Acero to icons like Rob Machado and WSL chargers like Mick Fanning so it’s a very natural relationship. We’re super excited about this partnership going forward.”
