Brooks Continues Historic Charge Up The Rankings With Third-Straight CT Win
Regarded as a phenomenon from a young age, 19-year-old Erin Brooks(CAN) continues to show she’s living up to the hype and now adds her name to history with three straight CT wins, joining the likes of Stephanie Gilmore(AUS), who did so in 2008, and Carissa Moore (HAW), who earned three wins between the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. Brooks went from a requalification scare to becoming a prominent World Title threat after jumping to World No. 5 in the rankings following this event.
“This win means everything,” said Brooks. “I’m so thankful to the Lord for letting me get three wins in a row. If you told me at Stop No. 7 that I’d be where I am right now, I wouldn’t believe you because this is insane. I’m just so thankful to the Lord for letting me achieve this, and I’ve just been trusting in His plan. The first part of the year was like such a bummer, but this makes it worth it. I’ve had so many hard heats, it just made me want to work even harder, and now I’ve gotten to this point, and I want to keep going.”
An unprecedented surge from 2025 CT Rookie of the Year, Brooks, pushed her to a third-straight Final following her back-to-back CT wins. Brooks proved she can do it all, from heaving barrels to high-performance showdowns, besting then World No. 1 Carissa Moore (HAW) with a 15.33 heat total to move into the Semifinals against reigning World Champion Molly Picklum (AUS). But Brooks wasn’t to be denied another Final appearance and took down the reigning World Champ, marking her third World Champion defeat on the road to the Final, where she bested now World No. 1 Gabriela Bryan (HAW). Now, the Canadian representative steamrolls toward the postseason as the most in-form competitor on Tour.
Brooks and Bryan traded blows throughout a tense Final, with Bryan opening the account with a 6.33 (out of a possible 10) in the first five minutes (after a heat restart) before Brooks answered with a 7.00 built on backhand brilliance. The lead swung again, as a split peak saw Bryan unable to scratch into a set while Brooks went the other way, closing out a forehand combination for a 5.17. Bryan responded a minute later with a string of forehand hacks down the line, needing a 5.85 but coming up just short with a 5.57. The heat then went quiet until the three-minute mark, when Brooks held off a final push from Bryan, unleashing more backhand precision across three sections to post a 6.00 and stretch Bryan’s requirement out to a daunting 6.68. With the clock working against her, Bryan was unable to find the score she needed in the closing minute, handing Brooks the win and a third-straight Finals Day victory.
Arguably one of the most powerful surfers on Tour, Gabriela Bryan (HAW) was relentless on Finals Day to push the level toward excellence from start to finish. Now, the Kauaʻian leaves the Lexus Trestles Pro back in the Yellow Leaders Jersey and storms toward the postseason, leading the World Title race.
“It’s been an incredible week, and it’s so good to be back. I came here every summer growing up, so it’s a lot of good memories,” said Bryan. “Having Matt and the whole Biolos family here, he makes me some amazing boards and makes me feel at home, so that’s been super fun. And then having Kolohe [Andino] in my corner, he’s just kept it super light and kept the energy high, which is what I really needed at this point of the year. And, runner-up, some really good waves along the way, and I’m just stoked.”
The new World No. 1 Bryan keeps proving her power is among the world’s elite, pushing the scale to an 8.43 and a 16.26 heat total in her Quarterfinal appearance over Luana Silva (BRA) before delivering more in a Semifinal clash with San Clemente’s own Sawyer Lindblad (USA). Bryan’s relentless power couldn’t be stopped, and halted the hometown hero’s momentum with another excellent 8.50 display on her forehand attack.
