We’ve drunk all the Baileys, ate all the mince pies we can, the Christmas tree is drooping and now it’s time to start focussing on the new year once again.

For most the Christmas period is extremely busy and packed full of festive get togethers and when this is all over we can sometimes be left feeling a little flat. Instead of moping around and twiddling our thumbs watching reruns of Lost we have complied some of our top tips to help you beat the festive blues to get your ready for the new year ahead!

Don’t panic if the healthy diet doesn’t go to plan straight away.

With boxes chocolates and mince pies still hanging on in there it can often be hard to kick the junk and start eating clean. Once it’s gone it’s gone and you can soon fill the cupboards with healthy goodness.

Be realistic with your New Year goals.

Don’t set them too high and be ready to adapt them slightly throughout the year. Be realistic and also make sure they are your goals, not someone else’s.

Still socialise as much as possible.

Just because the festive season is over doesn’t mean everyone has to go back into hibernation. Over Christmas it feels like you get to see so many people and once it’s over everyone seems to disappear! Make an effort to invite people round, get out and about or go surfing with your  mates.

Make healthy choices when eating and drinking.

After indulging on A LOT of food and drink over Christmas, it’s important to give your body a much needed break and eat clean and healthy. Drink plenty of water and give juices and smoothies a go. They will help get the much needed vitamins and minerals your body needs at this time of year and get you on the road to fitness once the spring comes.

Have a clear out.

With Christmas comes presents and that means more things to fill up your cupboards! So why not have a big clear out and give away some items you don’t need or use anymore. Charity shops are always happy to take items that you no longer need. Declutter your house and you will also declutter your mind.

Plan things to look forward.

Book tickets to somewhere, plan a surf trip, a weekend away or book onto a weekly exercise class. Having a goal to focus and work towards, it will keep you happy and motivated.

Take it easy when getting back to your normal routine.

It’s often hard to get back into the swing of things and it takes a bit of time to get back to your normal day to day routine. So don’t beat yourself up if you’re not raring to go straight away. Just go with the flow and ease yourself back into life after Christmas, you’ll soon get your groove back on!
