“You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby”
to quote a Fat Boy Slim album title and it feels like we have too!
From the first issue to our new issue out next week, we feel we have really witnessed huge changes in women’s surfing over the last 16 years. Most of which didn’t seem possible when we first started out but women’s surfing has inspired a generation to take to the waves and look how far we’ve come…
Travelling Far and Wide
We’ve seen women surfing places we’d never thought possible, from Iceland to remote Pacific islands. And defying the odds in some countries like India and Iran to do so.

You Can Surf Too
The rise of women’s only surf camps popping up all over the world, encouraging beginners to learn in a nurturing, sympathetic environment and spreading joy to many.

Talented Surfers
Pro surfers like Carissa Moore and Steph Gilmore – we’ve observed their progression from groms to world champs. They’ve inspired a generation of young rippers to follow in their footsteps on the WSL Women’s World Tour along the way.

Surf Labels
Some surf fashion brands have come and gone over the years – remember Voodoo Dolls anyone? Now there’s a trend towards female-led surf and fitness wear labels run by inspirational women, as well as eco friendly brands.

Big Big or Go Home
We’ve seen the rise of strong, brave women charge on massive waves. Surfers like Maya Gaberia, Keala Kennelly, Paige Alms and Justine DuPont amongst many others leading the way and holding their own.
The list goes on and on.
This new issue of 2018, like our first issue back in 2002, is stacked with inspiring and positive women. To everyone who has helped create SurfGirl mag and the surf brands like Roxy, Rip Curl, Billabong and O’Neill who continue to support us thank you. It’s been a great team effort and there’s so much more to come.
