With less than a week to go the SurfGirl team Louise Searle, Abbi Hughes, Michaela Reed and Chelsea Holter choose their top picks of all the things they’re looking forward to seeing at Boardmasters this year.
Women Surf Contests (Louise)
Here at SurfGirl we’re so looking forward to watching the best of British surfing in the Rocket Dog Women’s Open and the WSL Women’s Longboard Presented by SurfGirl. There’s a great pool of talent in the UK and Boardmasters is the best place to see the girls in action. Looking forward to seeing who will take over Keisha Eyre’s crown in the Open…Emily, Ellie, Evie, Flora, Lucy – who’s it going to be? In the Longboard event that’s the first longboard comp so it’s open to anyone, good luck girls!
Shopping at the Surf Village (Michaela)
I’m really looking forward to hanging out in the Surf Village at Fistral Beach. There are so many cool products to look at (and buy!) and there’s such a great vibe as there’s such a great mix of people from all walks of life who all come together because of surfing. I’m going to be on the SurfGirl/Carve stand in the surf village so come by and say hi!
Beach Bar at Fistral (Louise)
Fistral has loads going on during the day, so there’s nothing better than to watching the surfing action from the Beach Bar as it’s a good viewing point especially at high tide and you can hear some great Day Sessions tunes like local band The Sum Of while you’re at it. In the evening it’s the perfect place to chill down after the day’s activities and catch up with your mates over a cold pint of Rattler while you’re waiting for the Beach Sessions to begin. Deaf Havana are playing this year and local band Land of Giants, looking forward to it!
Skate & BMX at Fistral (Chelsea)
I LOVE the ramps at Fistral, time for the young and the young at heart to bust out some big moves. It’s always so well attended with cheers and chants all around to spur on the competitors. The atmosphere is brilliant and looking forward to see who comes out on top of the leader board. Good luck guys and GIRLS!
Sunset Sons at Watergate (Louise)
We’ve loved this band since we heard about them at the beginning of last year and just like Ben Howard they’re moving on up to much bigger things. So it’s going to be great to see them play at Watergate. Last year we watched them playing at the Ohana Cafe after Boardmasters was cancelled because of the hurricane – such a cool gig but this year it will be so much better! Also looking forward to seeing amongst others Nick Mulvey, Faithless, Lucy Rose, Arrested Development and Bastille.
Music Festival (Michaela)
Music wise, I’m really looking forward to Saturday night’s headliner; Rudimental! So excited to see what and how they play live on the Main Stage. I also cannot WAIT to hear Groove Armada on the Unleashed Stage on Sunday! What a way to end a weekend.
Cliff Top Views (Abbi)
The panoramic views over the ocean from stages like The View and The Point is truly amazing and you totally can’t beat a north coast golden sunset.
