After a long winter its finally spring time at last. Daffodils are bobbing in the breeze, the ocean is gradually getting warmer, flip flops are on and the days are getting longer, which means soon we will all be able to surf after work again, well if you are lucky enough to live by the beach.

So while we’re waiting for the summer sunshine we can relish all the great things about spring and for those of you who are seasonal surfers, get back in the water, it’s lovely! Here’s some reasons to be cheerful now spring’s arrived.

1. Ditch the gloves and booties
Finally the water is slowly warming up alongside the air temperature, so it’s almost time to throw our winter warmers back into the closet and take to the waves barefoot once again.

2. The clocks go forward
Thankfully the clocks will go forward for our British Summer Time! This means more hours of light and therefore more time for après work surfs to help de-stress from a hard day at the office and get that much needed positive mood boost. They will go forward at 1am on Sunday, March 29.

3. Festivals season starts soon
It’s time to get social! Festivals aren’t just only for summer and there are some really cool spring events coming up that shouldn’t be missed, check out music events in your area. In the UK we’re looking forward to these coastal festivals,  Tunes in the Dunes at Perranporth, Electric Beach Festival at Fistral and The Masked Ball in Porthleven. Also start planning now and get your early bird tickets for the big summer festivals like Boardmasters and GoldCoast Oceanfest.

4. Get your surfing buzz
If you love a good surf comp there are some great local ones on the horizon like the English National Surfing Championships and The Junior Surfing Champs. If you fancy a go at something completely different try a bit of river surfing, the Severn Bore in Avon is due to fire this season. There’s also SurfGirl’s Waves and Workouts Weekend to get excited about at the beginning of July. Get your experience booked now and enjoy surf, sun, music, yoga and massage!

5. Loads of holiday weekends
We all look forward to a holiday weekend, with an extra day off work and there’s no excuse not to get into the ocean, especially if the surf’s pumping! Easter is coming up which means an excess of chocolate bunnies and eggs but also a long weekend. Good Friday is on the 3rd and Easter Monday on the 6th. In the UK we have spring holidays in May on 4th and 25th.

6.Vitamin D
We all love the sunshine and fortunately for us (in moderation) we get some vitamin D into our bodies from the warm rays of sunlight. A lack of vitamin D can lead to all sorts of health problems. Eating the correct foods and getting out into the spring sunshine will definitely help. Obviously be careful and wear sunscreen if you’re going to be sunbathing.
