We’ve all been there, suffering spaghetti arms after trying to paddle out and catch waves. It’s frustrating, but it’s all down to power in your arms and upper body strength. There are lots of ways you can improve your paddle power by combining both aerobic exercise and strength training. Developing strong shoulder muscles, a strong core and strong lower back muscles is key to stabilising your paddling technique.

Here’s our training tips to help you improve;

Power Stroke Cords
These are the ultimate accessory for resistance training and better still, they can be used just about anywhere! Work the triceps and biceps by combining a variety of quick and easy exercises. Power Stroke Cords available at the Beach Boutique

Swim Training
Front crawl is one of the best ways to improve paddle power so hit your local swimming pool to kick start your swim training or get do it properly and get a coach.

Handy hint: Why not try swim training with hand paddles to help boost the muscles used when paddling out and catching waves.

Swimming in the sea is a great way of improving your paddling power and it’s free! Just make sure you know your limits and swim with a friend.
