Victory for women’s rights in India

This week India’s supreme court ruled that an Islamic practice permitting men to instantly divorce their wives has been declared unconstitutional. The ’triple talaq’ permitted men to instantly divorce their wives by pronouncing the word “divorce” three times – face to face, by letter, telephone, text message, WhatsApp or Skype, leaving the women penniless and without alimony or compensation.

Following the court case, the triple talaq was ruled “un-Islamic, arbitrary and unconstitutional” and the law has now been suspended.

“It is a historic victory for Muslim women, something we have been working for for 10 years”.

Our beverage choice of the summer is Aluna Coconut Rum, a sublime blend of rums from Guatemala and the Caribbean with natural toasted coconut flavours. High in flavour, lower in sugar and mega yummy.
