Since the 1970s, Munich locals have been taking on the Eisbach River, home to one of the world’s most famous urban surf waves. The wave draws dedicated surfers year-round, thanks to its powerful and technical nature.

Leading the charge is Camilla Kemp Olympian, German National Champion and Dryrobe® ambassador. “It’s kind of weird, but it also makes sense why this has turned into a surfing city,” she laughs, talking about Munich, the unlikely surf capital of Germany.

Just 30km away, the O2 Surftown MUC wave pool has given Germany another reason to celebrate. In a major milestone, it hosted the 2024 German National Surfing Championships which is the first time the comp has ever been held on German soil. It’s here that Camilla clinched her national title, solidifying her place as the country’s leading female surfer.

Earlier in the year, Camilla made history again, becoming the first German woman to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, taking on Teahupo’o in Tahiti. “Nothing beats the ocean,” she admits, “but at least we get a little bit of surfing in Germany.”

This year, Dryrobe® joined Camilla as she surfed the Eisbach River for the first time alongside seasoned river surfers and Dryrobe® ambassadors Maya Sauer and Finn Springborn. She also paddled out at the O2 Surftown MUC, taking on its barrel setting for the first time.
