Your surf guide to the magic of Morocco.

Morocco… the land of deserts, tagines, souks, and spice markets. For surfers, though, it is the place to go for year-round sunshine and access to some of the most beautiful point breaks you’ve ever seen.
Travelling solo, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Especially whether it would be safe for women or if the surf conditions would be too advanced for me. I shouldn’t have been worried; the country stole a bit of my heart, and I can understand why so many expats have fallen so in love with the lifestyle that they have made a new life out there.

The Surf
Lots of surfers come to Morocco for its world-class point breaks, but there’s something for everyone, with some fast-moving beach breaks to pose a challenge for those who want it. Beginners in my surf group were able to learn easily in the whitewater, while those of us who had more experience were guided out back to the best spots for the sets rolling in. The instructors even scored a few barrels (or so they claimed).
In September, the water was definitely warm enough to surf in just a swimming costume, but sometimes when the fog rolled over, it could get a bit chilly, so it was useful to have a full wetsuit provided by the surf school.

Where to Stay
Going with a surf camp was the right call. The instructors were all locals, so they really knew the best surf spots, and were keen to make sure they found the best waves every day for each person’s level.
On the beach, we felt relaxed and looked after; it was safe enough to leave phones on our towels, as there was always a watchful eye from the surf camp staff.
The instructors were well-known at all of our surf spots, which commanded them respect in the lineup and made us feel part of the scene.
Staying at a surf camp made it easy to meet people. I arrived alone and left with new friends from all over the world.

What to Wear
Despite being a Muslim country, Morocco’s surf towns are fairly laid-back. Around Taghazout and Tamraght, shorts and vest tops are fine, and women are welcome to surf in bikinis. Just remember to cover up when heading into cafés or travelling outside surf areas out of respect.

Surf Towns to Explore
Taghazout: Morocco’s surf capital is lively, full of surf shops and camps.
Tamraght: A quieter town, 10 minutes drive from Taghazout with great coffee and charm.
Imsouane: Long, dreamy right-handers perfect for intermediates.
Essaouira: Windy and artsy, a mix of surf and kite culture.
Safi: Heavy reef breaks, super fun for more advanced surfers.
Planning a trip
Morocco’s coast has so much appeal, whether you’re looking for barrels or mellow peeling waves, and there’s a warm atmosphere that goes far beyond the surf.

Floating You
South Morocco
Female Surfer's Guide To Morocco: Floating You
Floating You, Southern Morocco
In November 2025, FloatingYou brings its signature blend of surf, yoga, and soulful self-work to the sunny coastline of Morocco. From Nov 8–15, the retreat unfolds 5 min away from the laid-back surf town of Taghazout, in a luxurious 9 bedroom villa, where you can see rolling Atlantic waves meet firing sunsets from your bedroom. Each day is designed to flow through letting go, clarity, new beginnings, adventure & manifestation. Morning surf sessions with expert local guides, afternoons of yoga on rooftop terraces, and evenings of nourishing Moroccan feasts.
But FloatingYou retreats are never just about surf or yoga. This week is about transformation, reconnecting with yourself, breaking through inner blocks, and remembering the joy of being fully present. Through breathwork, sound healing & ceremony, participants are guided deeper into their own rhythm, supported by an intimate community that feels like family by the end of the week.
With only a handful of spots, the retreat stays intentionally small. Ensuring personal attention, authentic connection, and room for what truly matters. Imagine ending the year with a renewed sense of direction as the ocean carries you forward.
