Heartfelt, rebellious and soaked in golden-hour nostalgia, with a distinctly British surf and skate vibe and they’d love for you to be part of it!
Always Towards the Ocean follows Peggy and Lucy-Jean (c.18), identical twin sisters spending their last summer of high school skateboarding golden-hour roads and surfing the Jersey coastline. When only one is accepted into their dream all-female skate crew off the island, their seemingly unbreakable bond begins to fracture.
Emily and Bethany Cornelius – twin sisters, twin producers, and lifelong collaborators, together with their director, Rebecca Coley, and twin writing duo, Elizabeth and Victoria Lawal, are raising £10,000 to make a short film ALWAYS TOWARDS THE OCEAN: A story about teenage twins growing up in Jersey, detangling their identities, and learning to love each other differently as they step into adulthood. This is a short film that will operate as a “proof-of-concept” for a feature film. There’s sun, there’s skate, there’s salt spray and there’s sisterhood. But to make it happen, they need your help!

WHY THIS FILM, WHY NOW?
“Growing up on an island on the south coast of England we were inseparable (whether we liked it or not!) But when we left home at 18, we were suddenly faced with the unexpected (and slightly odd) task of becoming “separate people”. Through our shared love of skating, and during the first COVID lockdown after years of living apart, we reflected on this time of our relationship, and ALWAYS TOWARDS THE OCEAN was born. With Emily having returned from Jersey after qualifying as a lawyer, we are both now established in the London film industry. We are excited to finally realise the vision we’ve been cooking up these past years and continue our co-producing career through showcasing the fast-growing women’s skate scene that inspired us to step on a board.
This is a coming-of-age film with attitude and a bitter-sweet breakup movie of sister-soulmates. At its core, it’s a film about individuation and sisterhood, told through the nostalgic, sun-kissed lens of surf and skate culture. It’s for anyone who has experienced the leap-of-faith moment of leaving home, the daunting desire to chase your dreams and a love letter to siblings through the radical lens of twinship and the swiftly expanding British surf/skate scene.
